Association for Senior Citizens
Association for Senior Citizens has been operating since 1981, ensuring
the senior community in Colorado receives the necessities to maintain
a high quality of life. In 1986, Association for Senior Citizens
was one of 12 founding members of Community Shares for Colorado.
In 2007, Tee Tanaka, Assistant Director for the Association, began
serving on the CSC Board of Directors. Throughout our 21 years, the
Association has been a model partner organization, promoting the
opportunities of all people to volunteer and give back to the community.
The Association also provides employees their own workplace giving
campaign, providing support to all CSC member agencies. Thanks to
Association for Senior Citizens for your incredible commitment and
outstanding community service!
Elizabeth Cohill, Founder and Executive Director of ASC since 1981, was
presented the outstanding Women in Business Award for Nonprofits on August
9, 2002 by the Denver Business Journal.
Perhaps you saw Elizabeth Cohill on Channel 7 during January 2002. The
Association for Senior Citizens, which she founded in 1981, was featured as
one of the top seven nonprofits organizations in the region. Channel 7 asked
us to contribute locally to our best charitable organizations that are
contributing so much to our community.
Point of Light? Yes. Former President George Bush notified Elizabeth
Cohill that the Washington, D.C. Point of Light Foundation chose her as the
national Point of Light recipient on January 3, 2002. His son, President
George Bush, sent his congratulations for her special mark on our community
writing on January 25, 2002:
"Your hard work and dedication enhance the quality of life for others and
demonstrate the caring and generous spirit that makes our country strong."
Elizabeth Cohill was honored with the Colorado University
Graduate School Alumni Recognition Award at commencement on May 12, 2001 for
her entrepreneurial spirit in founding the Association for Senior Citizens.
She has been nominated for the "Entrepreneur of the Year Award"
sponsored by Ernst & Young.
In 1999 The Association for Senior Citizens was awarded the "Ageless
Wisdom Award" from the LMC community Foundation for contributions toward
making health happen.
The Visiting Nurse Association awarded The Association for Senior
Citizens an honorable mention for the 1996 collaborating Agency of the Year
"Heart of Caring" Award for best exemplifying the spirit of collaboration in
volunteerism.
Also, our Lillian (an 86 year young volunteer in our food bank for the
last 14 years) was awarded the Minoru Yasui Community Volunteer Award for
January 2003 and the Denver Broncos/NFL Quarterback award for
volunteer services in the fall of 2001.
