Would You Like To Help?

LEAVE A LEGACY
We at The Association for Senior Citizens would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support on behalf of our seniors. We are currently involved in an exciting and innovative campaign called "Leave A Legacy." While seventy-five percent of people give to charity during their lifetime, only six percent leave a gift to a non-profit organization in their estate plan. There are two major reasons: most people don't think about the possibility and they don't realize the benefits to non-profits from charitable bequests.

Leave A Legacy began in 1995 in Columbus, Ohio.  We'd like to encourage you to explore the opportunities you have to "leave a legacy." For more information on how to remember The Association for Senior Citizens in your will or other estate plan, please call us at 303-455-9642. We also invite you to learn more about this campaign on the internet at http://www.leavealegacy-colorado.org.

tips for giving

The Colorado State Attorney General's tips for wise giving:

- Ask for a registration number to confirm the charity and solicitor are registered with the secretary of the state.  Each should have a unique number.

- Check previous financial disclosure reports online at http://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/bingo_raffles/main.htm before donating.

-Confirm that your donation is tax-deductible.

- Ask how much of your donation actually goes to the nonprofit organization.  By law, a solicitor is required to tell you.

- Ask for printed material describing the nonprofit's programs, no matter how trustworthy they sound

- Watch out for names that sound like, but are different from, other more well known charities in order to confuse or mislead.

-Do not pay in cash.  Make out a check payable to the charity.

- If you feel unsure about it, simply say no.
